THE SPECIFIC RANGE OF VARIETIES OF MURFATLAR RESEARCH STATION
The dry soils rich in limestone which became apparent in many places, the excessive continental climate with very hot summers, long autumns, rare rains uneven distributed (it rains in spring and late autumn time), but especially the sun which is very generous with plenty of light and heat, all of these makes this region a paradise to grow the vine varieties of noble wines, making easy, in some years, for the grapes to became over matured and to make them noble using the Botrytis cinerea var. nobilis fungus, allowing to gather the gifts of earth , water and sun in the drop of amber or ruby, which is representing the source of delight for the entire menkind .
Louis Pasteur said that “The wine is the most healthy and the most hygienic drink“, because its composition (carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins, enzymes, organic acids, and so on) obtained in the cells laboratory of the grape and by the complex fermentative process made by the microorganisms from the Saccharomyces genus. The Murfatlar wines, obtained using the latest technology adapted for each variety and type of wine, but not least, by following with accuracy the entire way of the grapes from the vineyard to obtaining the drink, which presents at the tasting test remarkable organoleptic properties, insuperable floral flavors, lubricity, velvety like taste and rich color spectrum, from yellowish – green to yellowish – amberfor the white wines and red garnet with ruby reflections for the red ones.
CHARDONNAY - originated in France, it has been brought at Murfatlar 70 years ago and it founds here the second homeland. We grow it on the large surfaces only in this vineyard
The wine obtained it has a delicacy and a flavor like mowed hay or like a meadow with spring flowers. In a glass of Chardonnay you have got the fantasy, the refined poetry from the ones who adopted it and keep making it perfect. In the new vineyards it has been promoted the CHARDONNAY 25 Mf. clone, a superior biotype, selected and approved by the Research Station in 1982.
PINOT GRIS - also originated in France, it is one of the most loved variety for obtaining demisweet and sweet wines of Romania. From it we produce a bright wine, greenish – yellow or golden, it can be liquorish like the gods nectars and ambrosia, which once tasted do not forgot so easy.
The wine is well balanced in its compounds, kind, but harsh and vengeful with the ones who drink too much. When it is poured into a glass is easy rounded, elegant as a cane in a slow wind in the Danube Delta.
In the new vineyards it has been introduced the PINOT GRIS 13 Mf. clone, a superior biotype selected by the Research Station in 1980.
MUSCAT OTTONEL - originated in France, from its grapes we prepare a vine which you must drink it young and fresh, in order to sense all the niceties, this because with the passing of the years, the Muscat Ottonel taste and the flavor is blurred. Associated with the Pinot Gris and Riesling Italian, the Muscat Ottonel wine wins by the charm of its multifloral perfume.
SAUVIGNON (Petit) - it is a variety with a small and yellow berry, met in France, allows obtaining dry or with a rest of sugar wines. It is indicated to be consumed young or old. At Murfatlar it can be offered like an dry white wine, with the belief that it will satisfy experts requirements.
In the latest years it has been introduced on the new vineyards the SAUVIGNON 9 Bl. clone, a superior biotype, obtained at Blaj Research Station in 1984.
RIESLING ITALIAN - a cosmopolite variety, originated in Austria , is cultivated on small surfaces at Murfatlar, being used to obtaine dry wines, by its own or mixed with others varieties, especially Pinot Gris and Muscat Ottonel. The wine obtained is serious, tempting and confident especially for wise men. The foam formed when it is poured in to a glass, gives you the feeling that laugh. They say it has something from the grandiloquent of the Round Table Knigts.
In the latest years in vineyards was been introduced RIESLING 3 Bl. clone, a superior biotype, obtained at Blaj Research Station.
COLUMNA - the variety is new created, at Murfatlar, in 1985, approved and patented, in present being distributed in small surfaces in the crop. From it, we produce a fine dry or demidry wine, with a discrete flavour, balanced in it composition, more acidic comparing to the wine obtained from Riesling Italian and Feteasca Regala varieties, being at home and satisfying all the demands, which makes it the most representative variety for the dry wines in the south – dobrogean vineyards ecosystem, where the climate and the soil conditions is producing less acidity to all varieties from the assortment.
PINOT NOIR - originated in Bourgogne – France; from this vine is obtained a velvety wine which by aging increases its tasting qualities .It is a rough, silent, elegant, being a well-known variety in the world making fame of Bourgogne wines . This variety is grown at Murfatlar since the beginning of the century (1910). The shining light, the soils rich in limestone, the specific microclimate, transfers to the wine obtained here peerless qualities. In the present, we have got in our vineyards the quality clone PINOT NOIR 5 Vl.
CABERNET SAUVIGNON - comes also from France, Gironde region, from this variety being obtained the “king“ wine of the black varieties, which by aging gets great qualities. Provides year by year strong color wines, balanced, extractives, rich in tannin, these qualities being the result of the balance between the pedo-climatics conditions of Murfatlar and the oenologists art transmitted and enriched from generation to generation. It is a glittering wine rich in all of earth and sky gifts. Wild and majestic it has in the same time body, spirit and a special perfume, qualities which gives a well condensed flavor, that you can not forget it easily .
In the latest years, in the new crops it has been introduced CABERNET SAUVIGNON 33Vl clone, a superior biotype obtained at the Iasi Research Station.
Once decided to taste the Murfatlar wines it’s a hard try, because you don’t know what to choose and where to stop, each wine having it own charm.
Instead of conclusion , the words of Goethe is coming in our minds : “ The wine is a joy of human heart , and the joy is the mother of all the virtues “, advising you that if you would ever have to choose from many wines , choose the Murfatlar wines – the wine which will make you feel more virtuous… And don’t forget!
