RESEARCH CENTRE FOR VITICULTURE AND ENOLOGY MURFATLAR, is located in the middle of the vineyard with the same name that it is spreading on the central hilly area of the Constanţa County.
Since more than a century, beginning with the 1907, at Murfatlar were established the first plantations for research, which were named "The nursery Murfatlar ''.
The surfaces of the our vineyards have ranged from 5 hectares in 1907 until 1747 hectares in 1988. Currently, the land consists of 190 hectares of which 108 are in the property of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Forestry "Ghe. Ionescu Șisești".

High concentrations of sugars in must of the grapes, as a consequence of dry climate and the calcareous soils, created at Murfatlar the opportunity of obtaining semisweet wines and natural sweet wines, original, which were asserted easily in time, at international and national competitions. Currently, here are obtained all range of wines, dry, semidry up to sweet ones
The assortment consists in wines from white varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot gris, Sauvignon, Fetească regala, Riesling Italian, Muscat Ottonel, Columna and the varieties for red wines: Pinot noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Fetească Neagra and Mamaia.
THE SPECIFIC RANGE OF VARIETIES OF MURFATLAR RESEARCH STATION
The dry soils rich in limestone which became apparent in many places, the excessive continental climate with very hot summers, long autumns, rare rains uneven distributed (it rains in spring and late autumn time), but especially the sun which is very generous with plenty of light and heat, all of these makes this region a paradise to grow the vine varieties of noble wines, making easy, in some years, for the grapes to became over matured and to make them noble using the Botrytis cinerea var. nobilis fungus, allowing to gather the gifts of earth , water and sun in the drop of amber or ruby, which is representing the source of delight for the entire menkind .
